About Us Bruhud

Preserving Heritage, Enriching Lives

BRUHUD New York Seniors (BNYS), founded in 2009 by the late Shri Shashikant M. Patel, is a registered 501(c)(3) cultural and educational non-profit organization based in New York. BNYS serves as a vibrant and inclusive community hub for individuals and families originating from the state of Gujarat, India, who now reside in the New York tristate area.

Shri Shashikant Patel had always possessed a deep passion for serving the community and improving the lives of others. His journey in public service began during his formative years in Surat, India, and continued as he moved to Uganda, East Africa, and ultimately to New York, USA.

During his time in New York and New Jersey, Shri Patel was actively involved with various community organizations, devoting himself to the betterment of society. Over the years, he recognized a significant gap in programs and services specifically designed for senior citizens. To address this unmet need—and to have the autonomy to design meaningful and impactful initiatives—he founded his own senior activity group. His efforts made him one of the first individuals to focus exclusively on senior engagement, earning him recognition as a pioneer in this field.

With this vision, BNYS was established to serve as a platform for cultural preservation, education, and community building. Its mission is to preserve, promote, and celebrate the rich cultural, religious, and social heritage of Gujarati and Hindu Sanatan traditions. Through a wide array of cultural, educational, recreational, and charitable activities, BNYS strives to foster unity, understanding, and engagement across generations of Gujaratis living in the United States.BNYS organizes a diverse range of events and programs throughout the year, including Holi, Gujarat Day, Indian Independence Day, Navratri, Diwali, cultural dramas and plays, traditional performances, religious discourses, celebrations of Hindu Sanatan Dharma, health fairs, medical seminars, community workshops, charity events, women’s empowerment initiatives, and senior-focused activities.

The Executive Committee of BNYS is comprised of dedicated individuals who work passionately to ensure the organization remains inclusive, active, and community-focused. We welcome your participation and warmly invite you to become a part of the BRUHUD New York Seniors family. Whether your interests lie in cultural events, volunteering, or simply connecting with fellow community members, there is a place for you at BNYS.
